What is Trauma Informed Care?

Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) is a therapeutic approach that recognizes the significant effects of

trauma on individuals, aiming to create a safe and supportive healing environment. Its primary

goal is to understand trauma's impact while ensuring that services do not re-traumatize

individuals. TIC considers trauma's various forms—physical, emotional, psychological, and

spiritual—and acknowledges its lasting effects on mental and emotional health, which may not

always be obvious.

Rather than asking “What’s wrong with you?” trauma-informed care asks “What happened to you?”

The Key Principles of Trauma-Informed Care

How We Implement Trauma Informed Care at Care Cope Heal

  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Trauma-Focused CBT is a specialized approach to therapy that helps children, teens, and adults heal from traumatic experiences. It combines education about how trauma affects the mind and body with practical coping skills, emotional processing, and supportive guidance.

Through TF-CBT, clients learn to manage difficult emotions, reframe unhelpful thoughts, and safely work through painful memories. This approach is structured, collaborative, and empowering—helping individuals rebuild a sense of safety, strength, and hope after trauma.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy that helps people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. When painful memories get “stuck,” they can continue to cause anxiety, triggers, or negative beliefs.

Through gentle techniques like guided eye movements or tapping, EMDR helps the brain reprocess these memories so they feel less overwhelming. This allows you to gain relief from the past, build healthier perspectives, and move forward with more peace and control.

  • Somatic Therapy

At Care Cope Heal, we use somatic (mind-body) therapies to help you release the stress and trauma your body may be holding. Through gentle practices like breath work, grounding, and movement, you can restore balance, feel safer in your body, and build resilience. Somatic therapy offers a way to heal not just through talking, but by reconnecting with your whole self.
